What happened

After the 2026 NEET leak, cancellation and a stressful forced re-examination, around a dozen students were reported to have died by suicide amid the anguish, part of a documented pattern of exam-linked student deaths over several years.

Asked in Parliament about student suicides in the coaching-and-exam pipeline, the government replied that it maintains no such data, the same refusal to count that it deployed on migrants and on the oxygen dead. A system that leaks papers, cancels exams and then cannot even be bothered to count the young lives lost is a system that has stopped caring who it breaks.

What accountability should have looked like

Count and publish the deaths, fix exam integrity and scheduling, fund real student mental-health support, and treat each loss as a failure of the state, not a statistic to avoid.

Ministers and office-holders responsible

Naming who held the portfolio is a matter of public record. It is not by itself a finding of personal responsibility for any death or any rupee.
