What happened

Two years after the 2024 debacle and a fanfare of reforms, GPS-tracked papers, jammers and a new anti-cheating law, NEET-UG 2026 was cancelled on 12 May after a circulating guess paper was found to overlap heavily with the real exam. The CBI moved in and arrests followed.

The repeat laid the 2024 fixes bare as theatre. The same agency, the same leak, the same script of a sacked official and a fresh committee. No minister has owned the second collapse, even as it fed a nationwide youth protest movement over exam integrity and jobs. The message to 2.27 million young people was that their futures are expendable.

What accountability should have looked like

Treat a second collapse as a resignation-level failure and rebuild exam security under genuinely independent oversight, not another in-house committee.

Ministers and office-holders responsible

Naming who held the portfolio is a matter of public record. It is not by itself a finding of personal responsibility for any death or any rupee.
